Mowat, Gregory and Cross capture Fan Appreciation Night wins
By: Nicole Kleinsteuber
Brighton Speedway’s second and final Fan Appreciation Night hosted a lively grandstand with 65 cars dialed in for an action-packed race card on Saturday.
The night presented by Bill’s Johns Portable Toilets featured four divisions – Vanderlaan Building Products Late Models, Bainer’s OilGARD Anti Rust Canadian Modifieds, Bill’s Johns 4-Cylinders and the Quinte Septic Stingers.
During intermission, drivers took over the front stretch allowing fans the opportunity to meet them, take pictures, get autographs and lots of treats.
Cross captures checkers
A heat win earned No. 8 Brian Cross pole position for the Quinte Septic Stingers 12-lap feature. At the drop of the green flag, Cross took off leaving the rest of the field in the distance. Cross rode the inside with No. 95c Chris Lammle moving up from eighth and proving to be his toughest contender. Cross crossed the line to earn his first Stinger career win with Lammle in second. No. 03 Dillion Barker placed third, No. 17 Ryder Punchard fourth and No. 66 Ray Davies fifth.
Gregory Grabs #6
No. 47K Karl Lecuyer and No. 24X Travis Fox-Connor led 23 Bill’s Johns 4-Cylinders to green in the 15-lap main event. No. 22 Tyson Gregory snapped up the lead from the outside coming down the front stretch on lap 4. Gregory rode like the wind to Empey Tire Victory Lane to score his sixth season win. No. 20 Cody Sager charged from 13th to finish second. No. 42 Aidan Fletcher was third, No. 3 Shawn Knowlton fourth and No. 2 Trevyn McCrillis fifth.
Mowat Makes It Rain
Polesitter No. 46 Brandon Mowat was a force to be reckoned with in the Vanderlaan Building Products Late Model 30-lap feature. At the drop of the green flag, Mowat jumped out to a commanding lead with No. 41 Ryan Lambert and No. 9 Josh Black battling wheel to wheel in the rearview. Despite multiple cautions Mowat never gave up the point as Lambert challenged for the lead. Mowat was so hot it forced Mother Nature to open the skies and rain down on the speedway bringing the night to an early end. Mowat picked up his second season with No. 77 Caley Weese in runner-up. No. 5 Steve Baldwin placed third, No. 05 James Seymour fourth and No. 11 Kyle Sopaz fifth.
The Bainer’s OilGARD AntiRust Canadian Modifieds’ 25-lap event was rained out and is re-scheduled for Aug. 2.
