Brighton council has hired a general contractor to build a $50 million mechanical sewage treatment plant.
North American Construction Ltd. is expected to begin work in the fall on the project which is expected to take about two years to complete.
The plant will be at the same location as the current treatment system is, along County Road 64.
Meanwhile, at its Monday meeting, council also authorized its fire chief to arrange the purchase of a 2007 aerial platform truck to deal with taller buildings now existing or about to be built in Brighton.
The truck, now in Kamloops, has a useful lifespan of five to seven years and council has set aside $100,000 for the purchase.
