Prince Edward County is going to be looking at the costs associated with plowing the municipality’s sidewalks in winter.
During Tuesday’s council meeting, Councillor Nieman put a motion on the floor to have municipal staff prepare a report on the costs to the municipality related to the clearing of snow and ice from sidewalks.
In his motion, he suggested that some areas may be getting more attention than the amount of foot traffic warrants, and that knowing the costs associated with sidewalk plowing would be useful for preparing the 2026 budget.
“Most of our equipment is located in Picton, out of Lake Street. So some of that cost would be transporting the equipment to Consecon or wherever we’re plowing,” said Councillor Nieman. “It’s just basically to have a look to see what it’s costing us to plow the sidewalks, and is it feasible.”
The motion was passed after brief discussion.
