Prince Edward County OPP are investigating two suspected drownings in East Lake over the weekend.
Police responded to Cherry Beach Resort just before 6 p.m. on Saturday where members of Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue, Hastings-Quinte Paramedics and civilians were attempting life-saving measures on an individual.
The victim, a 51-year-old male from the Toronto area, was taken to hospital but was later pronounced deceased.
Sunday, just before 6 p.m., officers were called to a location along County Road 11.
It was reported that a group had been out in two canoes on East Lake when they decided to go swimming and were then unable to get back into the canoes. One person made it to shore, and a bystander went out in his boat and pulled two other individuals from the water.
The final person could not be located.
The missing person’s identity is not being confirmed at this time.
Divers with the OPP’s Underwater Search and Recovery Unit are currently searching East Lake.
