It was a scary scene in the heart of Prince Edward County Monday afternoon.
Farm equipment was in a crop field on County Road 1, just west of Highway 62, when smoke and flames were reported coming from a tractor.
Anthony Auciello is the owner of Terracello Winery, directly across the road from the blaze. He says, “There was a massive explosion.”

Video he posted to social media shows massive flames and smoke coming from the farm field mid-afternoon Monday July 14.
Auciello says the flames destroyed dozens of acres of crop and also got close to a neighbour’s home. ”I talked to a lot of farmers and they told me that have never seen anything like that.”

He credits incredible work by members of Prince Edward Fire for getting the blaze under control.
“They used farm equipment to rip the soil around the fire to cut off very drop crop in the field.”
The entire region has received little to no rain over the last few weeks, making the conditions dangerous in the area.
