The man accused of a hit and run collision that led to the death of a teenaged girl in 2023 is expected
to plead guilty to a charge of failing to stop at an accident causing or resulting in death.
Quinte West man Dean Potter is expected to enter a plea in a Belleville courtroom October 29.
Sentencing is also expected that same day.
Potter was arrested after hitting 14-year-0ld Seryn Lazzaro who was walking with a friend
on 2nd Dug Hill Road in Trenton, south of Old Highway 2, on a November evening.
Potter, 51 at the time of the incident, drove away from the scene. Lazarro later died in a Toronto hospital.
The tragedy sparked a grassroots push for sidewalks and lighting along that stretch of 2nd Dug Hill Road, a
project now underway when Quinte West council took immediate action.
Neighbourhood residents have also asked that that stretch of the road be renamed Seryn’s Way.
The matter, including a recent preliminary hearing, is being presided over by Justice Howard Chisvin.
