Quinte West City Council approved a timeline for its 2026 budget at its meeting on Wednesday.
In a report to council, Director of Finance and City Treasurer for the City of Quinte West Caleb DenOuden outlined a number of factors into the process of creating the 2026 budget, including the role of strong mayor powers.
This includes a 30-day deadline following a special council meeting on the budget to allow for amendments.
The mayor will then have the ability to veto amendments (in writing) within 10 days after the expiry of the 30- day period noted above.
Following that, council will have the ability to override the mayor’s veto (if utilized) with a 2/3 vote within 15 days of the expiry of the veto.
Originally, a special council meeting on the budget was scheduled for October 29, 2025 but is now cancelled.
