The City of Belleville’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee met at Belleville Public Library on Tuesday, July 15. Prior to the meeting, a special presentation ceremony took place, when various cultural groups presented the library with introductory / historical profiles for inclusion in their Local History Collection.
CEO Trevor Pross received the cultural profiles after each group gave a brief introductory presentation. These diverse histories from various cultural and religious groups will be kept in print and digital form as part of the library’s reference collection.
Community leaders from the Caribbean, East Indian, Canadian Jewish, Korean, Sikh, Islamic, Filipino, and Tibetan communities shared written histories that will be retained in the library collection.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee Chair, Councillor Sean Kelly, expressed his appreciation for the relevant work carried forward by members of the Education, Support and Engagement sub-committee and thanked the library for hosting the July 2025 meeting.
Trevor Pross, CEO, comments:
“Belleville Public Library is pleased to have been invited to take part in this special ceremony and looks forward to adding these community profiles to our reference collection for preservation and the enjoyment of Belleville residents for years to come. These resources will be available in our local history collection, and digitally on the Belleville History Alive website, in late August. A big thanks to the City of Belleville, to the cultural groups for their presentations, and to Dr. Aruna Alexander of United Nations Association Quinte, for organizing this event.”
