Belleville City Council approved a list of set fines as part of its noise by-law at its meeting on Monday.
In a report to council, Manager of By-law Enforcement Aggie Hill said the set fines are not used as a mechanism for revenue generation, rather as a tool to maintain compliance and uphold community standards when other measures are ineffective.
She says that ultimately, preference will be given to a friendly resolution, with charges and fines reserved for multiple repeat violations.
