There was a fire at the Northumberland Waste Transfer Station Thursday afternoon.
During the hot and humid afternoon hours, crews responded to the Cramahe Township site, adjacent to Hwy 401 at County Road 25.
Today’s Northumberland spoke to Cramahe Township Fire Chief Matt Halmasy, who indicated heavy smoke was coming from the bay doors and the sprinklers had been activated.
According to OPP, the fire was mostly out around 4:30 p.m..
Heavy machinery then made its way into the building to pull the smoldering rubble garbage out.
Brighton Fire was also called in to assist.
No cause is known at this time and no word on whether there is any damage to the building.
