The unemployment rate for the Belleville-Quinte West census metropolitan area saw an increase from May to June.
The latest monthly report from Statistics Canada, shows an unemployment rate of 7.1% for the month of June, an increase from 4.1% in May.
The local CMA includes Belleville, Quinte West, Deseronto-Tyendinaga and Stirling-Rawdon.
It comes as Canada’s labour market topped expectations in June amid a surprise surge in hiring.
Statistics Canada says the national unemployment rate dropped a tick to 6.9 per cent in June as the economy added 83,000 jobs, mostly in part-time work.
For Ontario, the unemployment rate is at 7.8 per cent.
