The cause of a house fire on Gordon Street Monday has been deemed electrical.
Belleville Fire and Emergency investigators determined the fire started in a second-storey bedroom.
Early notification to 911 by a neighbour and a quick offensive fire attack limited the damage to one bedroom with some smoke damage to the second floor.
Damage is estimated at $50,000.
A neighbour also rescued a dog from the first floor prior to the arrival of firefighters.
The fire department is reminding the public:
- Cords or extension cords should never have items placed on top of them
- Extension cords should never be used as permanent wiring
- Extension cords should never be overloaded, do not exceed the amperage they are rated for.
