Belleville police charged two people in connection with separate investigations involving animals.
Saturday morning, police assisted Animal Welfare Officers with an investigation into an animal complaint, discovering that a male had beaten and choked a dog the previous day.
Twenty-eight-year-old Samuel Earle of Belleville is charged with cruelty to animals causing unnecessary pain, suffering or injury.
The dog was seized and taken into Animal Welfare’s custody and will be placed in a safe home following medical treatment.
Earle was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court next month.
Early Saturday afternoon, officers responded to a report of a man strangling geese at Victoria Park.
Officers attended the area and located a male, along with a recently-deceased goose.
As a result, a 48-year-old male of no fixed address was charged under the Migratory Birds Convention Act.
His name was not released.
The charge comes with a fine of $490 for a first offence and can be as high as $15,000 for subsequent offences.
