Northumberland OPP arrested a prohibited driver Sunday night in Hamilton Township.
At approximately 9:15 p.m., an officer was alerted by the Automatic Licence Plate Reader that the registered owner of a plate that was attached to a silver Toyota sedan travelling on County Road 45 just north of Highway 401 was a suspended driver.
The officer conducted a traffic stop and observed the driver quickly switch seats with an individual that was in the passenger seat.
Upon investigation it was found that the individual who was operating the vehicle was a prohibited driver.
As a result, Melchor Rodriguez, age 49, of Scarborough was arrested and charged with:
• Operation while prohibited
• Obstruct peace officer
The accused was released by the OPP with conditions to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on a date later in July 2025.
