The value of construction activity in Belleville in June was well up over the same month in 2024.
There were 66 permits issued by the city’s building department in June, up by just three over 2024, however, the value of construction last month was just under $56.1 million compared to $10.2 million last year.
Most of that difference comes from a permit taken out by Kellogg’s for $40 million worth of improvements to be made to the College Street East facility which is undergoing major upgrades.
The City of Belleville also took out a $9.3 million permit for the construction of a convention/exhibition centre at the new fairgrounds at Black Diamond Road and Highway 37.
Those two major projects also have boosted year-to-date construction over last year.
Through the end of June, there has been $107.5 million worth of construction activity.
That is much higher than the almost $47.9 million over the first six months of 2024.
And it’s more than half the total of construction for all of last year which was $200.8 million.
