An early morning wreck has both the OPP and the Special Investigations Unit investigating in the Township of Alnwick-Haldimand, with part of County Road 45 closed as they work.
Northumberland OPP officers were conducting speed enforcement just after midnight when they observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed.
Moments later, the vehicle was involved in a single-vehicle collision. The lone occupant of the vehicle sustained life-altering injuries and was transported to hospital.
The OPP have notified the SIU, which has invoked its mandate, and is investigating the incident.
In parallel, the OPP are conducting their own investigation into the circumstances that led to the collision.
County Road 45 remains closed between Roseneath Landing Road and Bowmanton Road as members of the OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team assist with the investigation.
