Prince Edward County is updating their guidelines for civic recognition awards.
During Thursday’s committee of the whole meeting, members of council reviewed the new guidelines, intended to increase awareness of the awards and their recipients.
Under the new guidelines, any resident of Prince Edward County is eligible. The award can be granted to an individual or group, with the awards divided into several categories.
The new award categories are:
• Amateur Sport Award
• Bravery / Heroism Award
• Community / Service Group Award
• Environment / Sustainability Award
• Mayor’s Special Achievement Award
• Outstanding Volunteer Award
• Youth Leadership Award
• Youth Volunteer Award
Nominations for the year will be submitted to the municipal clerk’s office. After the submission deadline, a committee will be formed to review the nominations for the award, and prepare information for council to review the award and determine who is to receive it.
Currently, awards are issued during council meetings, but under the new procedure, all awards for a year would be granted in a single ceremony during the fall.
The changes were approved by the committee, and referred to council for final approval.
