Project Renewal, a team of Belleville Police Service and OPP officers focused on the local drug trade, has seized drugs valued at almost $285,000 in the first four months of this year.
That’s more than the $240,000 worth of illegal drugs seized in all of 2024.
Drugs seized in the first quarter during four separate investigations include cocaine, fentanyl, magic mushrooms, and unknown pills.
However, most of the total street value came from the seizure of methamphetamine at $264,000.
The team arrested seven people in the first quarter and laid 49 drug, weapon, and theft charges.
In the first four months of last year there 10 investigations leading to the arrest of 30 people who faced a total of 109 charges.
