Northumberland OPP charged a driver with impaired driving while conducting traffic enforcement.
On Tuesday, just before 1 a.m., police were conducting traffic enforcement on County Road 28 at Telephone Road outside Port Hope.
Officers observed a dark-coloured Honda sedan approach the intersection and complete a u-turn at a clearly posted “no u-turn” intersection.
Police stopped the black sedan on the Highway 401 west on-ramp.
An approved screening device demand was made to which the driver complied by providing a sample of their breath.
With the result, the accused was taken into custody and transported to the Cobourg OPP detachment for further testing.
Through investigation, the individual was found to be suspended from driving under the Highway Traffic Act.
As a result of the investigation, Nivyan Abbasi, age 25 of Pickering, was arrested and charged with:
· Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The individual was additionally charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:
· Drive while under suspension
· Disobey sign
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court in Cobourg on August 27.
