A high speed fundraiser took over the parking lot at Homestead Marketplace in Trenton on Sunday.
The Trenton Memorial Hospital foundation held their 2025 Bed Racing event, to raise funds for new beds and stretchers at Trenton Memorial Hospital.
This was the first time the event ran since the COVID19 Pandemic.
The event kicked off at 9:30am, with four teams taking turns racing down the track on decorated rolling beds, with the fastest times moving on to the next round of the race.
The teams consisted of the Last Responders, team Alliance Patient Transfer, Team Scotiabank, and Team Pickleball Addicts.
Collectively, the teams raised $1800 for the fundraiser, with more donations still coming in during the event.
Makayla Mior, Fund Development Co-ordinator for the Trenton Memorial Hospital foundation, said that replacing older beds and stretchers in the hospital is vitally important.
“Anyone who comes into the hospital is going to be either on a bed or a stretcher at some point,” said Mior. “It’s a very critical piece of equipment that we have to raise funds for. So today is going to really help with that.”
The beds being raced were built by grade 11 and 12 students from St. Pauls Catholic Secondary School, St. Theresa Catholic Secondary School and Nicholson Catholic College. Chris Putman, their teacher, said his students did an excellent job working on the rolling beds.
“I think it was incredible opportunity for them,” said Putman. “They learned a lot and and they got to invest into something that is helping the community and so that give them a real sense of satisfaction.”
Donations are still being accepted through the foundation’s website here.
