Belleville council received results of the first-of-three public surveys regarding Belleville’s 2026 capital and operating budgets.
The first survey focused on spending priorities and overall approach to budget development.
More than 700 responses were received, primarily homeowners from urban Belleville.
A majority of respondents wanted the city to either maintain or reduce taxes, even if that meant scaling back some discretionary services.
While most respondents wanted service levels to remain where they are, some services including road and sidewalk projects, doctor recruitment, long-term care, and economic development, stood out as areas where residents expressed interest in increased service levels.
On the other hand, spending on heritage, museums, cultural and community events, and social housing was seen as less important.
