Belleville council will hear public input on a proposed change to its Development Charges By-Law
Monday.
Consulting firm Watson & Associates will present an updated development charge study proposing that industrial
properties no longer be exempt from development charges.
It’s estimated that the city has exempted industrial properties from $14.4 million in devel0pment charges since the current by-law came into effect in 2021.
Under regulations, any forgone revenue from one property type cannot be made up by increasing development charges on another.
After the public comment period, council could vote on an amendment at its July 14 meeting.
