The Belleville General Hospital Foundation’s (BGHF) canvassing teams are back in local communities this week, on a mission to grow the hospital’s Give Every Month (GEM) donor program.
Over the past two years, the GEM program has seen extraordinary success, thanks to the generosity of residents from Belleville, Quinte West, Prince Edward County, and beyond. This week’s canvassing has already brought in 27 new monthly donors, underscoring the region’s unwavering support for the critical care offered at Belleville General Hospital.
“We’re closing in on 1,000 monthly donors, and each one feels like part of the family,” said Steven Cook, executive director of BGHF. “This community has embraced monthly giving as a way to stand by the hospital all year round. Their loyalty gives us the flexibility to meet urgent needs and make life-saving investments, right when they’re needed most.” A consolidated tax receipt, annually, also streamlines the administration costs so it’s a win-win.
Monthly donors directly support high-impact services at BGH including Oncology, ICU, Mental Health, Advanced Diagnostics, and the Fracture Clinic, all of which serve patients across the Quinte region. With over $12 million in equipment needing replacement in the coming years, this steady stream of support ensures the hospital can respond immediately and efficiently, especially in an uncertain economic climate. Cumulative monthly giving is expected to surpass a quarter of a million dollars in 2025, an important core revenue program for the foundation.
“Our canvassing teams aren’t just fundraisers – they’re storytellers,” said Wayne Sheppard, board chair of BGHF. “They’re sharing how every monthly gift, no matter the size, connects donors with regional care programs that touch thousands of lives each year. As a regional hospital, we care for people from far and wide, across the entire Quinte Health catchment—so every new donor helps carry that weight.”
BGHF encourages residents to welcome canvassers and consider joining the GEM community. Together, they’re not just raising funds – they’re raising the standard of care.
