Hastings County’s Finance, Property and Personnel Committee is recommending county council defer a funding request from the YMCA of Central East Ontario to 2026 budget deliberations.
At the committee’s meeting on May 20, a funding request was received from YMCA CEO David Allen for an annual contribution of $20,000 per year for five years for the YMCA Centre for Life project.
This would mean a contribution of $100,000 over the five years.
The over $27-million Centre for Life facility will sit on property on the former Quinte Exhibition grounds in Belleville’s west end near the Quinte Curling Club.
The Y requested funding in 2023 to the tune of $50,000 per year for five years, totalling $250,000.
Council at the time did not move forward with that request.
