Starting June 23, the City of Quinte West is introducing traffic-calming measures along four roads as part of a traffic-calming pilot project.
The measures are intended to reduce vehicle speeds and improve safety for all road users.
- Couch Crescent: Asphalt speed humps and temporary, seasonal in-road flexible posts with attached speed limit signs
- Lester Road: Seasonal, in-road flexible posts with attached speed limit signs
- Montrose Road and Moira Street West: Seasonal rubber speed humps and temporary, in-road flexible posts with attached speed limit signs
In-road flexible posts are vertical posts installed near the edge of the roadway and/or down the road’s centre line. They help narrow the road, guide traffic and encourage drivers to slow down so they can pass through the posts safely. Speed humps are rounded, raised areas of a roadway that require drivers to reduce their speed to maintain comfort and prevent vehicle damage.
There will be some temporary traffic delays while they are installed.
Quinte West Council approved the measures recommended by the city’s Active Transportation and Traffic Safety Advisory Committee last November.
