One of Quinte West’s most well-known buildings is being torn down.
Earlier this week, we received word that demolition had begun on the former paper mill, along the Trent River on Marmora Street.
Since the 1920s, the site was known as Norampac Domtar.
In 2006, Cascades bought their sister company’s shares for $560 million and became the sole owner of the corrugated paper mill.
The plant has been vacant since January of last year.
The property is currently zoned to allow warehousing, general industrial use, bulk fuel depot, and transportation terminals.
The sites in Belleville and Trenton, which both were slated for closure in February of 2024, employed roughly 150 and 80 people respectively.
