A Tyendinaga Township man pleaded guilty to hunting an antlerless white-tailed deer without a licence and to unlawfully using another person’s deer tag.
A release from the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources states that Kyle Leeming was fined $2,000 and is prohibited from applying for the 2025 antlerless deer draw.
Court heard that on November 16, 2024, conservation officers were conducting compliance checks on hunt camps in Tweed.
Leeming’s hunting group had harvested several deer throughout the week, including two antlerless deer earlier that morning.
Through the officers’ inspection, they confirmed that Leeming possessed the only antlerless deer tag for his hunting group on this day.
Leeming admitted to unlawfully shooting both a doe and a fawn knowing that his group did not have adequate tags to harvest both antlerless deer.
The Ministry says that Leeming attempted to conceal the activities by invalidating a deer tag that was issued to a person that was not actively participating in the hunt when he killed the two antlerless deer.
The case was heard by Justice of the Peace Christopher Peltzer in the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on February 24, 2025.
