A draft by-law regarding property maintenance will be brought forward for Belleville council’s consideration at a future meeting.
The decision was made at a council meeting on Monday.
Council saw a staff report outlining an online public survey that showed most respondents thought that land maintenance rules were not being enforced enough by the city.
Staff collected feedback, which led to the decision to modernize language and keep major provisions the same.
Some of the changes proposed include littering, standing water, trees, grass and weeds, and naturalized gardens.
You can read the full proposed by-law here.
A set fine schedule that would be attached to the proposed by-law will be presented separately for council’s consideration.
