Belleville police have charged a man after a report of a fake shooting incident.
On Wednesday, just after 9 a.m., Belleville police and Hastings-Quinte Paramedics responded to reports of a shooting involving a woman and her husband in the city’s central core.
When police arrived, they cleared the apartment only to find a 57-year-old female resident safe and sound, unaware of what had been reported.
Police began an investigation into the identity of the caller, and learned that a man had been harassing the woman for some time and had fabricated the shooting and 911 call to continue the harassment.
As a result of the investigation, 58-year-old Timothy Hicks of Belleville was arrested and charged with criminal harassment and public mischief.
He was released on an undertaking, with a court date in July.
