The number of building permits issued by the City of Quinte West during the month of May was similar to the year before, however, the construction value of the projects increased significantly thanks to some major housing projects.
There were 57 permits with a construction value of $59.1 million last month.
That’s just one more than May 2024, however, the construction value last year was only $6.4 million.
Almost $54.7 million of last month’s total involves new residential construction, including permits for seven new single-family dwellings and a total of 186 apartments.
The major housing projects have also put year-to-date construction values well ahead of last year.
Through the end of May, Quinte West has issued 218 permits worth $81.5 million.
There were 228 permits granted through the first five months of 2024 but the value was only $25.3 million.
