Belleville police have charged a Quinte West man after a break and enter incident involving a firearm.
On Friday, officers responded to a call in the city’s west end, where a man had entered a residence while in possession of a handgun.
Police responded quickly, but the man heard the sirens and fled the scene on foot.
After getting a description of the suspect, police set up containment and searched the area, finding the man a short distance away. Police arrested the suspect without incident.
At the time of arrest, the man was not in possession of the handgun. Police believed he dropped the weapon while fleeing, and called in a K9 unit to search for it. A 9mm pistol was found in a backyard, inside a bush.
The investigation lead to a long list of charges against 33-year-old Kyle Labarge of Quinte West. He faces charges of:
- Break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence
- Possess firearm contrary to a prohibition order
- Tampering with a serial number on a firearm
- Pointing a firearm
- Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Careless use of a firearm
- Firearm – use while committing an offence
Labarge was held for a bail hearing.
