Northumberland OPP recently charged two motor vehicle operators with impaired driving.
On Saturday, just before 2 a.m., an officer was travelling east on County Road 35 in Trent Hills and observed a white Volkswagen SUV that had rolled into the north-side ditch between Woodview Road and Bannon Road.
The officer stopped to check for injuries. The uninjured driver and only occupant of the vehicle made their way out of the ditch and began speaking with the officer.
Police suspected the individual had been consuming alcohol and administered a roadside screening device test to which the driver registered a fail. The individual was taken into custody and transported to the Campbellford OPP Detachment where further testing was conducted. As a result of the investigation Jaxon Lee (age 24) out of Stirling, Ontario was charged with:
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on a date in July 2025.
Just after 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, police received numerous traffic complaints regarding a grey Toyota Corolla that was observed to be driving erratically on Highway 401 east. The vehicle was described as not being able to maintain a lane and hitting the center median.
An officer located the vehicle and observed the vehicle to be driving at inconsistent speeds while swerving from one lane to the other.
Three cruisers were used to safely conduct a tandem stop of the subject vehicle on the highway off-ramp near the Big Apple in Colborne.
An officer spoke to the driver and immediately detected an odor of alcohol emanating from the individual’s breath. The driver was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and transported back to the OPP detachment in Cobourg for testing.
As a result of the investigation, Gregory Reuel (age 34) of Kitchener has been charged under the Criminal Code of Code of Canada with:
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
Dangerous operation
The driver was additionally charged under the Liquor Licence Control Act and the Highway Traffic Act.
The accused was held until sober, then released with a date in July 2025 to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.
