A 50-year-old Tweed man faces numerous charges after a violent incident in Belleville that has left a 69-year-old woman with life-threatening injuries.
Belleville police, fire and Hastings-Quinte Paramedics responded to the east end of the city Saturday evening just after 7:30 where an elderly woman was located outside suffering from significant head injuries.
She was taken to Kingston General Hospital where she remains with life-threatening injuries.
Police identified a suspect but could not locate him immediately.
They also learned a second adult female was the victim of ongoing criminal harassment by the same person.
Officers were called back to the same east-end area later in the evening and observed the suspect in his vehicle and initiated a high-risk vehicle stop.
During the attempted arrest, the suspect placed his vehicle in reverse and intentionally rammed the police vehicle causing extensive damage.
An officer was taken to hospital as precaution.
Police took the suspect male into custody and located a loaded hunting rifle on the passenger seat of his vehicle.
The man, who is not being identified, was held for a bail hearing on charges of:
1. Operation while impaired
2. Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
3. Aggravated assault
4. Criminal harassment
5. Possession of weapon
6. Assault with a weapon
7. Assault peace officer
8. Careless use of firearm
9. Unauthorized possession of a firearm
10. Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
