Bancroft OPP has charged a teenager in connection with an intimate image investigation.
Police began an investigation in March after learning a sexually explicit video involving a person under the age of 18 was being circulated among youth without the individual’s knowledge or consent.
As a result, a 15-year-old individual has been charged under the Criminal Code with distribution of child pornography.
The identity of the accused cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The OPP is reminding all members of the public, particularly youth and caregivers, that sharing intimate images without consent is a serious criminal offence.
OPP encourages parents and guardians to speak with young people about safe online behaviour and the importance of consent in all interactions.
Police say if you have been impacted by the sharing of private images or suspect unlawful activity, contact police or a trusted adult.
