The building stats are in for May in Brighton, and they show a decline in new construction compared to last May.
Out of the 10 building permits issued in May, only one was for a new housing unit, which is a single-detached home.
The 10 permits also fall short of the 16 approved in May of 2024. The combined value of $1,200,700 of this May’s permits is also less than the value of permits in May 2024, which was $6,235,000.
While the numbers for May have fallen compared to last year, year-to-date construction is still increasing overall. At the end of May 2024, 21 dwellings had been approved, compared to 34 for the same period of 2025.
A total of 70 permits had been approved by the end of May, compared to 67 at the end of May 2024. The value of this year’s permits is $103,268,700. Last year, only $18,557,500 in permits had been approved in the same time period.
