Shannonville Motorsport Park is buzzing as the SMP Cup promises an exciting weekend of racing.
Drivers and their cars have descended upon the track for two full days of racing this weekend.
The event is hosted by the St. Lawrence Automobile Club with the help of Canadian Automobile Sports Clubs.
St. Lawrence Automobile Club President Jeff Brown says this is the largest auto race Shannonville will host this year.
Friday is for registration and practice runs.
Brown says racing begins Saturday.
“Track opens at 8:30. They’ll have Formula Prototype challenge, the Miata Cup, F1600, that’s open wheel. And then there’ll be Gran Touring Super Touring GT 1 and 2.”
Events run until about 5 p.m. with a similar schedule on Sunday.
Brown says Shannonville is one of the best venues to watch racing.
“You know they have such a huge, beautiful grandstand out there. You can see 90 per cent of the track, if not 95 per cent of that track. So, if there’s an incident on track, you’re seeing it, you can look at, you can hear it, you can smell it and feel it.”
Admission is $15 per person or $30 per family for the weekend (Saturday wristbands are also good for Sunday’s admission).
