It won’t be known until next month if the accused person in a fatal hit-and-run collision in Trenton a year-and-a-half ago will stand trial or not.
In November of 2023, 14-year-old Seryn Lazzaro was walking along 2nd Dug Hill Road with a friend in the area of the Trenton Christian School when she was hit by a car and seriously injured. She passed away in a Toronto hospital.
Quinte West OPP charged Quinte West man Dean Potter, 51 at the time, with failing to stop at an accident
resulting in bodily harm.
A preliminary hearing was held Tuesday and Wednesday of this week and it will be decided on June 20 whether the matter will go to trial or not.
The tragedy sparked neighbourhood residents to lobby Quinte West council for upgrades to 2nd Dug Hill Road in the form of street lighting and sidewalks.
A project there is in the works.
