Prince Edward County is going to be working with the Prince Edward County Trails Committee to address some concerns along Millennium Trail caused by the new water infrastructure construction.
During Thursday’s Committee of the Whole meeting, the committee heard a deputation from Gregor Stuart, a member of the trails committee, that highlighted the problems facing the trail.
Due to the construction, the trail has faced poorly-communicated and marked detours, often down narrow roads with heavy traffic and no space for pedestrians. Parts of the trail and the surrounding green spaces have been dug up to lay new pipes, which will require reconstructing the trail and replanting of the green areas.
During his presentation, Stuart made some requests from the committee, including information on plans to restore the trail and the costs to restore the trail after the water works, as that info was either not previously available or was vague.
Council moved to direct staff to work with the trails committee on restoration of the trail after construction, and to bring a completed restoration plan to council when it is complete. The motion passed without debate.
