Prince Edward County Council has received some new information about the Municipal Accommodations Tax collected in the county.
During Tuesday’s meeting, a report was given outlining the MAT collected over 2024.
The MAT is collected from short-term accommodations such as hotels, and is a 4% charge.

A table, included in a report to council, breaks down the MAT collected by the city per quarter.
Over the course of the year, a total of $1,296,155 was collected.
Under the Ontario law that allows municipalities to collect a MAT, 50% of funds collected are required to go towards tourism marketing. That 50% was split between StayPEC and Visit the County.
The remaining half – $627,000 – was retained by the municipality. Out of those funds, $30,000 was used to fund the current U-Ride service agreement, $30,000 to service portable toilets in parks and at boat launches, and $50,000 for the PEC Art Fund. Another $116,000 has been set aside to fund the 2025 tourism management plan, and the remaining $401,229 is currently held in a reserve fund.
Council recieved the report, but took no further action.
