Belleville’s homeless population continues to cause problems for residents and businesses in and
around the downtown core.
On Monday, Belleville council will see a staff report outlining the costs involved in providing daytime security service.
Currently there is 12-hour overnight security around the downtown.
Staff say since services for the homeless moved from Bridge Street United Church recently to a building on South Church Street there’s been a steep increase in calls to police regarding trespassing and suspicious activity in that neighbourhood.
If council chose to use the same security service and add daytime patrols the cost is estimated at just over $92,000 for the remainder of the year.
