Talk of a new hotel in Brighton has been heating up this week.
Numerous group chats and social media conversations point to work being done on Elizabeth Street, adjacent to the No Frills store.
Several people reached out to Quinte News on the issue, so we contacted Mayor Brian Ostrander to get to the bottom of where things stand.
Audio PlayerAudio Player“The land owner has a site plan in front of staff right now for a hotel development. That site has been zoned commercial since 2006 or so, and a hotel is certainly permitted in a commercial zone.”
“Fortuitous also that council, through its strategic planning process, has been seeking to attract a hotel to the community for overnight stays, that we know are currently going elsewhere, or being utilized through short-term accommodation rentals, which we would love to see turned over to long-term rentals in the community.”
A notice for a public meeting on the proposal is expected to be announced Friday.
