Northumberland OPP have charged a man following an incident at Warkworth Institution.
On December 20, 2024, police received a report of an assault that had taken place earlier in the morning at the facility.
The report stated that an altercation had occurred between two inmates and an edged weapon was involved.
One person was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries and further transported to another area hospital by Air Ornge for medical treatment.
As a result of the investigation, officers arrested an individual on May 20, 2025.
A 32-year-old man from Loyalist Township has been charged with the following:
- Aggravated assault
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
The accused was held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.
