Brighton council is expected to vote Tuesday on recently awarded strong mayor powers and whether or not they should be implemented in the community.
A motion made by Councillor Bobbi Wright and seconded by Councillor Jeff Wheeldon states that the powers risk a shift to central authority from council as a whole and undermine local democracy.
The motion asks that Brighton formally express its opposition to the imposition and implementation of strong mayor powers.
Council meets at 6:30 in the municipal offices. The meeting is also livestreamed.
