Leeds OPP are investigating the discovery of human remains on an island in the St. Lawrence River near the Town of Gananoque.
On Monday, May 19 around 10 a.m., Leeds OPP say an individual reported making the discovery. The identity of the deceased has not been determined, and it is not known how long the individual has been deceased.
A postmortem examination will be conducted.
The #OPP does not believe there is any indication of a risk to public safety.
The Leeds OPP Crime Unit is investigating in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. The OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit is currently assisting.
