A dispute over rope caused what could have been a very dangerous dispute between neighbours late Friday (May 16) afternoon in the central part of Belleville.
Police say a father and his two-year-old daughter were outside working on a bike when the girl picked up a piece of rope belonging to a neighbour.
The neighbour approached and threatened to kill the little girl.
There was an argument during which the neighbour brandished a hatchet threatening the father who was holding the girl.
Video of the incident was taken on a cell phone.
A 39-year-old Belleville man was charged with assault and threatening to cause death.
