A majority of students with an eastern Ontario school board aren’t feeling at ease visiting school washrooms.
At a recent meeting, staff with the Upper Canada District School Board presented the result of a recent student survey.
Almost 60 per cent of respondents were not comfortable entering the restrooms.
Staff say one of the major issues causing students’ concerns was the prevalence of vaping in the washrooms.
One school with the board has created a distinct QR code which can be instantly and anonymously sent to the principal or vice-principal alerting them of a vaping or other incident.
About a quarter of the survey’s respondents had concerns with bullying in the schools.
