- It’s semifinal Saturday at the Centennial Cup, Canada’s national Junior A championship.
Saturday at 9:30 p.m. our time, the Trenton Golden Hawks will play the Melfort Mustangs of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League for a spot in tomorrow’s (Sunday’s) championship game.
Melfort and the Rockland Nationals won their quarterfinal games yesterday. Rockland will play the host Calgary Canucks in the other semifinal at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Meanwhile, Golden Hawks Head Coach Derek Smith tells Quinte News about the organization’s dedication.
“A lot of hard work goes into it from hockey operations, ownership, but also the players that just put us in a position to succeed in the playoffs and obviously coming into this tournament we had expectations – our goal was to win the national title.”
Golden Hawks fans will be able to watch the game live tonight at the Kinsmen Bar at the Duncan McDonald Community Gardens at 9:30. Admission is just a toonie and people are asked to bring a can of soup as a donation to the food bank.
