If Hastings County council approves, three brand new and two upgraded ambulances will be added to the Hastings-Quinte Paramedic Service fleet sometime next year.
The upgraded ambulances involve a process called “remounting” by which the rear patient compartment is removed and restored and then placed back on a new chassis.
Such upgrades cost less than a new vehicle.
Ambulances are usually replaced or remounted at 275,000 km.
The total cost of the new ambulances and upgraded ones is estimated at almost $1.1 million. The cost is part of a multi-year capital budget.
