The final tallies aren’t in yet but thousands of dollars were raised last week during McHappy Day.
On Thursday, McDonald’s restaurants across the country were raising money for Ronald McDonald House charities while also supporting local charities.
In this area, money also went to the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign and The Children’s Foundation.
YMCA fundraising coordinator Connie Reid says the Strong Kids Campaign helps ensure that all kids have access to YMCA camps and programs experiences that could be life-changing for kids.
“Last year we had over 600 kids went to YMCA camps. And 13 per cent of those families, the YMCA Strong Kids helped with those families so that their kids could have that amazing experience of going to a YMCA camp.”
The Children’s Foundation board of directors member Sarah Rozema-Seaton says the organization serves Hastings, Northumberland and Prince Edward Counties.
“They have everything from programs for scholarships to, they have a program for cribs and car seats for people that need them. So, it’s really widespread of the programs that they have for kids and families in our community.”
McDonald’s restaurants in Campbellford, Brighton and Trenton donated McHappy Day proceeds to The Children’s Foundation while the Belleville, Picton and Madoc restaurants supported the YMCA Strong Kids campaign.
