More than $100,000 worth of drugs have been seized and significant charges laid against an Alberta resident following an investigation into drug trafficking in the Quinte area.
OPP East Region Community Street Crime Unit and Belleville Police Service’s Project Renewal began an investigation last month which led to police conducting a traffic stop on Highway 2 in Belleville on Monday.
The Community Street Crime Unit, assisted by the OPP’s Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, OPP Emergency Response Team and OPP Canine Unit, stopped a pickup truck, arresting one person and seizing a loaded handgun with an over-capacity magazine.
A search of the pickup also turned up nearly 400 grams of suspected fentanyl, nearly 29 grams of suspected heroin, over 230 grams of suspected cocaine, more than two dozen hydromorphone pills, nearly two dozen hydrochloride pills, as well as more than $5000 in cash, items typically associated with drug trafficking, and ammunition for the seized handgun.
Investigators then executed a search warrant at an apartment on Creswell Drive in Quinte West, where additional ammunition and other items were found.
Twenty-six-year-old Charles Carlos of Calgary is charged with:
